Moving Far from My Parents

I have lived with my parents for 22 years. Even when I went to college, I just commuted from home because it was cheaper and more convenient for me. However, once I graduated, a great job offer came from halfway across the country. Even though it was my first time away from home, I was excited to start the next chapter of my life. My dad was a little more reserved than me though. I had found a great rental house, and my dad contacted ADT in Colorado Springs even before the moving truck pulled out of their driveway.

He is a police officer, so I can understand his worry about his only daughter moving 1,500 miles away. It would be different if I had been on my own before too, so he had more reasons to worry than most fathers. He has seen the worse side of humanity, and he wanted to protect me as much as possible. Being in the police business, he knows the value of home security systems. He wanted mine set up before I even moved in. He had already researched the neighborhood and reached out to the police department there to get a better feel for it too.

The only thing left was getting the security system up and running. He was there when the technician came out since they both took a week’s vacation to help me get settled in. Every door and window has a sensor on it, and there are sensors and detectors placed inside too to alert me and the monitoring service if something is wrong inside, like a fire, a dangerous level of carbon monoxide, and even for something like if a pipe bursts and there is flooding. I am not going to say it has been easy being so far away from my parents, but I am definitely enjoying this new life of mine too!
