My New Dog Has a Bad Habit

Couch Cushion Architecture I just adopted a new dog last week that is so cute. He is a two-year-old Black Lab and is great with my kids. The only thing bad about him is that he likes to chew on things when we are not home. The first time we left him alone, he chewed up a couch cushion. That couch cushion is going to cost me two-hundred dollars to replace. I cannot believe that a couch cushion can cost that much. The next time we left him by himself, he chewed up a bunch of DVD’s and a chair. I am looking for some advice on how to train him not to chew on things. The dog is costing me a fortune and it has only been two weeks or so.

I just bought him three chew toys from my local pet store today so I am hoping that will keep him distracted while I am gone. I really do not know what else to do to stop him from chewing on stuff. I could try to take him to an obedience class but that is a pretty costly option. I looked at one and they wanted two-thousand dollars for an eight-week class. I guess it will not take my new dog too long to reach that amount in damages. If anyone has, any better ideas I would love to hear them because I just do not know what else I can do. I could put him outside when I gone but I do not have a fenced in backyard so I would have to build a fence. A fence for my sized backyard would be expensive but at least that would add some value to my home. I was planning on building a fence eventually anyways. I hope that I can get this dog under control soon so I do not have to put him outside in the elements.
